1st Session

Korvosa, the Jewel of Varisia, has long sparkled on Varisia's southern shore.  Established 300 years ago by Cheliax at the height of that empire's expansion, the city now commands its own destiny.  A line of Korvosan kings and queens emerged to rule the ciry, establishing an infamous seat of power -- The Crimson Throne.  Rulers have sat upon the Crimson Throne for more than a century, and the city has flourished.  Yet the monarchy always seems on the brink of disaster.  The Crimson Throne is not a prized to be won -- it is a curse.  no monarch of Korvosa has died of old age, and none have produced an hear while ruling.  Even though King Eodred II controls Korvosa more fully than any previous monarch, that control remains tenuous, and many secretly count the days until their latest king falls to what they call the Curse of the Crimson Throne.

Your adventure began when you found a Harrow card somehow placed upon your person by unseen hands.  This card has a personal invitation written in a feminine script, beckoning you to come and meet with "others like you" who all have a past colored by Gaedren Lamm.  Upon traveling to 3 Lancet street, you find the humble dwelling of a Harrow Reader.  Inside, you find a motley group who have all received the same summons.  Your host, Zellara, enters after you have all had time to interact with each other.  She gives you the whereabouts of Gaedren, explains the losses she has suffered at his hands, and implores you all to bring him to one form of justice or another.

Before sending you on your way she performs a Harrow reading telling aspects of your collective past, present, and the possible future.  All seemed grim.

You travel to the Old Fishery where Gaedren has taken residence.  Just as you remembered, he continues to exploit the young and helpless for his own ends.  Now he has begun an operation where those too un-skilled to pick pockets are forced to work in horrible working conditions processing vile ingredients into chum and "dock dumplings."  While investigating the building you are discovered by the most disgusting dog you've ever seen, Bloo.  A fight breaks out once Bloo alerts Hookshanks Gruller, a mean little gnome, and Yargin Balko, Gaedren's fence and business manager.  Orphans scatter once Hookshanks and Yargin are defeated.  You then encountered Giggles, a demented half-orc overseeing more workers.  Once defeated you discover that Gaedren's lair is below the fishery.  He is shocked to find a flock of his former Lamms come to pay a visit.  Firing a bolt at his pet crocodile to put it into a frenzy is his misguided concept of a defense mechanism.  Your short combat with him ultimately ends with him meeting the fate he sent plenty of others to; a snap of Gobblegut's jaws.

Among his treasures you find an incredibly valuable brooch.  So valuable in fact, that you recognize it as a possession of Queen Ileosa herself.   It was famously pickpocketed from a theif, who stole it from a jeweler that was contracted to repair its clasp.

Most shockingly though you find the rotting head of Zellara along with  her Harrow deck upon Gaedren's Night stand.  Its clear that she has been dead for weeks.

  1. As a result of the harrow spread you are all granted five "Harrow Points" which you can use at any time in this chapter of the adventure path to re-roll any check tied to dexterity. Also, the cards you initially drew (The Rabbit Prince, Avalanche, etc.) will give you situational bonuses at certain points in the adventure that I will make you aware of. I will list what card you drew in case you can't remember.

Also, if someone can post what the xp rewarded was I would appreciate it. I didn't write it down. I can re-calculate if I need to. I plan to put a list of the loot up sometime too.

  2. I am also having trouble picking a color scheme/format for the site that works well with RSS readers, so bear with me if the site looks different every time you visit.

Do we know who the jeweler that the brooch was stolen from? That would be the best place to deposit it, saving the jewelers face (with a possible reward) and not laying unwanted suspicion on ourselves. Unless, of course, the story line needs us to be pinned, but that is easily rectified by the jeweler pointing us out.

    (Hashim)

...quickly taken a back by the scene unfolding before him, Hashim turns from the plundering of Lamm's ill gotten gains. He paces over to the remains of Gaedren Lamm and hoists the body into the shark infested water beneath the Fishery, hoping that without a body their murderous deed will less likely be looked into by the Guard.

His voice low in a attempt to contain the rage of seeing Lamm agian, "Take the brooch! We shall find a way to return it to the Queen. The rest belongs to the worn backs of children, or are you no better than Graeden."
"With hast, we have a girl to locate and then exit before someone takes notice of the fleeing Lamm's"...

  4. (DM) At this point, there is nobody around from whom you can gather information about the jeweler. You also know that leaving the fishery at this point would be a bad idea. You need to take the time to rest and learn more about the people you are traveling with.

  5. (As Ibolath) I feel as if an immense weight is lifted from my shoulders as Gaedrun's body is taken by the sharks. I'm not normally a violent halfling, but the injustices that I have suffered at the hands of Lamm and his minions have left me indifferent to his demise. I only wish I could have delivered the killing blow. I must content myself with the fact that his hold on me is finally lifted. Maybe now I can finally start to be less fearful of humans, though I'm not sure what to make of my companions in this venture so far. I'm so used to working alone. Although it is different being able to rely on someone to watch your back. And they even trust me to hold all of the loot we've gathered! Gaedrun never let me keep anything I acquired. He said such things weren't for the likes of me to handle, only to acquire. Such pretty items, too! What a pity there aren't any magical wands to play with! Never have I seen one up close! I think I would make a good wizard if I was just given a chance! I think I might stay close to this group for awhile. They seem to be lucky when it comes to getting into exciting situations.
